They chained your arms and legs to the rack and stretched your body. This method was very painfull.
Today people use modern technology in torture. For example they use strong electric shocks to torture someone without leaving any wounds. There are two types of torturing. The first type is the physical type and the second type is the psychological/emotional type. The psychological type of tortue does not necessariliy cause pain. An example is the sleep deprivation or to rape of a relative before the victim's eyes.

In what cases is torture justified? Torture is never justified because it is barbaric and stupid. The only possible exception could be the saving of innocent people. For instance, when a bomb has been planted in a crowded building. When the authorities can find out where it is, they can defuse it.
But I think that torture is useless.
