The Declaration of the rights of Women and the Female Citizen is written by Olympe de Gouges -shortly after the new constitution was passed- on October 1791. She is a middle class woman and is fighting for equal rights. It is a primary source which is about the unequality between men and women, with the purpose to get more rights for women. It is written for the National Assembly, which shall decree it as soon as possible.
In the first lines (ll.1-5) the author talks about the unequality of men and women, although they are the same, since the dawn of civilization. The next short part (ll. 7-9) is about the main addressee- the national assembly. In the third part (ll.10-14) Olympe starts the Preamble, which is about the natural harmonious relationship between men and women. In first article of the Declaration (ll. 16-17) the author talks about the first right, equality between men and women. The next article (ll.19-23) is about the demand, that women and men are allowed to contribute in the legislation. In the next article (ll.25-27) the author talks about the claimed right, that all women and all men have the right to say their own opinion without getting punished. In the last part of the Declaration (ll.28-31) Olympe talks about the equality in jobs, women do all hard work, that did men before, but they have the same chances to work and to get to a higher position.
