In the first section about the past, Kevin Rudd uses frequently the word “we”, which is an anaphora.
It demonstrates the mutual belief of the Australian nation.

Furthermore, in line 29 the metaphor “to close the gap that lies between us” shows the past segregation of the whites and the Aborigines.
