Essay Genetic Engineering - Friend or foe?

Beitrag von -Paranoid- »

Könnte mir vielleicht jemand diesen Aufsatz überfliegen und die erheblichen Fehler korrigieren? Wäre sehr dankbar!

GENETIC ENGINEERING – Friend or foe?
Since the discovery of DNA in the late 1950´s, the possibility of
genetic modification of animals and plants has become a reality. However is
the reality of designer babies going too far? The term designer baby refers to the
genetic modification of the child in its early fetal life. Two years ago Scottish scientists announced that they had successfully cloned a sheep. They named it dolly and it was an exact copy of the original sheep. Is cloning morally right? Is it ethical? In the following essay I will tell you the pros and cons of GM.

An advantage of cloning is that the offspring is totally predictable;
it is guaranteed to have the characteristics that of the parents.
Scientists believe that they may be able to treat heart attack
patients by cloning their healthy heart cells and injecting them into
the areas of the heart that have been damaged. They also think that they could grow important organs such as livers, kidneys, lungs and even hearts.
Furthermore there is a major bonus for infertile couples because there are able to have children through cloning.

A very strong argument against cloning is that we are interfering with
nature and anything could go wrong. (Playing God) This leads me on to
my next point. We are not certain of the side effects of cloning
humans. Besides scientists may attempt to produce a super-species of human being: they may use gene transplants to enhance physical appearance, talents or intelligence, which could give rise to the danger of genetic manipulation.
Clones maybe bought and sold on the "black market" as slaves, or they maybe illegally produced to do specific jobs.

In my opinion GM can make a significant contribution to
the prevention and cure of human disease, and to the feeding of a
hungry world. But if it’s used manipulative the consequences are considerable because scientists could take advantage of the improvement.

Genetic Engineering – Friend or foe?

Since the discovery of DNA in the late 1950's
the possibility of genetic modification of animals and plants has become a reality.
However is the reality of designer babies going too far?
The term designer baby refers to the genetic modification of the child in it's early foetal life.
Two years ago Scottish scientists announced that they had successfully cloned a sheep.
They named it Dolly and it was an exact copy of the original sheep.
Is cloning morally right? Is it ethical?
In the following essay I'm going to compare the pros and cons of genetic modifications.

I'm going to consider both sides of this debate
through a consideration of the medical, moral and ethical views.

An advantage of cloning is that the offspring is totally predictable;
it is guaranteed to have the characteristics of the parents.
Scientists believe that they may be able to treat heart attack
patients by cloning their healthy heart cells and injecting them into
the areas of the heart that have been damaged. They also think
that they could grow important organs such as livers, kidneys, lungs
and even complete hearts.
Furthermore there is a major bonus for infertile couples
because they may be able to have children through cloning.

A very strong argument against cloning is that we are interfering with nature
and anything could go wrong. This leads me on to my next point.
We are not certain of the side effects of cloning humans.
Besides scientists may attempt to produce super-species of human beings.
T
hey may use genetically modified transplants to enhance physical appearance, talents or intelligence,
which could give rise to the danger of genetic manipulation.
Clones maybe bought and sold on the "black market" as slaves,
or they maybe illegally produced to do specific jobs including illegal or dangerous tasks.

In my opinion genetic modifications can contribute significantly to find cures for human diseases
and prevent the spreading of them. It can also help to find ways to feed the hungry in our world.

Besides all the possible advantages or improvements
every scientists should always consider the risks and consequences of genetic manipulations
before starting any research in this area.

American English is rather easy to spot for a good teacher.
So please remember to mark anything you quote from the internet or elsewhere.
I'm sure your teacher knows your current level of English and therefore you
shouldn't try to copy complete paragraphs without proper citation
.
(e.g. the beginning of your text)

Please keep an eye on the content:

... totally predictable; it is guaranteed ... ... anything could go wrong.
... children through cloning... what are the clones of the parents - maybe doubles ?

Capitalising whole words in your title, putting words into brackets (Playing God)
or trying to create new abbreviations isn't the best idea for your essays.

GM is usually used for General Motors!
...is supplied without liability.
IELTS 7 Good user: operational command, occasional inaccuracies
