hello again

Beitrag von dieanna »

Hello,

I hadn't got much time in the last weeks because of many tests I had to write. Also in English... I hope it wasn't too bad. I will get the results in maybe 2 weeks.
So here are many new writers. Welcome.
There was a question about the book "About a boy". It isn't easy to read I think. But you will see that your English get better. You learn new vocabulary and some time you will read faster. I want to change my job maybe in the next weeks. I hope it will work. So now I will go into my bed and read... but this time a German book =))
Have a good night...

Hello.
First of all, my English isn't very good. But I want to improve it.
I took the time too read all the postings here, because I have plenty of time. For a year now I have been retired. In my profession live I made axels for Mercedes Lorrys and buses for more then 40 years. For my work I never needed English. In school, a long long time ago I never learned a foreign languege.
So some years ago I started learning English at Volkshochschule ( VHS). Just for fun. There was no pressure, no marks. Im 61 and of course the Methusalem in my english class and the only man amongst 8 woman.
I'm a native German and I live in Gaggenau, Baden-Württemberg not so far from the river Rhine and the french border. I live in a very nice landscape called Murgtal.
I thought I should a bit introduce myself after reading all that interesting postings of yours.
I'd like to make friends in this forum to improve my modest Englihs skills.
Kind regards
Franzi

Hey there,

I´m from Northrine-Westphalia in Germany (I suppose it´s spelled that way?) and always liked the thought of a multilingual community on the internet - and that´s what I finally found here :)
The main reason why I´m here is my English-class at school....all those guys I ought to learn English with didn´t learn anything so far and still cannot construct proper sentences (in 11th grade  ), so I´m searching for an opinion to test if my english skills are fitting my good grades or if it´s just that the others make me look good
Another reason is, that I really love learning foreign languages - at school I learn English, Latin and Italian, and I still think that´s not enough.
So I´m going to end my self-introduction here and join the community ^^

greetings,
johnny

Good evening

Beitrag von dieanna »

Hello and welcome johnny. Where do you exactly come from? I come from NRW too. I am in the 12th class now and my English doesn't become better in the last weeks. Maybe you had read my first or second text. I am a nurse and I only have 2 English lessons a week, because it is an evening school I go to. So we have no big chance to speak or read English in those (or these?) lessons. But my last English test was an B, so my English cannot be so horrible I think;o)
You have a talent for languages, haven't you? English is the only language I want to speak, but maybe this will be a long way because of the short time I have in my weeks.

Wish you a good evening
Anna

Hi Anna,

I´m from Hamm - i don´t know, everytime i say this anyone from NRW is just like "Where? Never heard of it..." - , and what´s your hometown? You describe the problem of learning languages at school very well: there aren´t enough lessons per week - so you have two kinds of students, one kind just having talent for languages and the other kind learning ´til their heads smoke (luckily i can consider myself being one of the first kind). But I think, if you got the dedication and motivation to learn English (or any language), you´ll be able to do this. It doesn´t take as much of an effort to train your language, it´s even better on some occasions, like if you want to watch your favorite tv-series and the next season is only available in English, or if you just need something off Wikipedia for school - English Wiki is really good, i don´t know why to use the German page anymore!
Anyways, I wish you good luck learning English :wink1:

Unfortunately I forget this sometimes...but if you read my post again, you´ll see that I didn´t write that I learn until my head smokes - actually I wanted to say the opposite. Didn´t that come out clearly?

Well it did after reading your post again.

I would not rely purely on luck and talent to be fairly honest. There are many people who are talented at languages but when it comes to the details of grammar, vocabulary etc they are quite lost.

Donno whether I've say it or not. My name is Chrissi and that's a short version of my old German name Christiane. I'm almost 30 years old, yeah I know I'm on the way for getting old. But I feel like almost 18 years though! I live in one of the beautiful cities in Europe, I live into Hamburg! The best place for living... So I am here to improve my English skills a little more, 'cause my jaw dropped when I noticed how bad my English is. I'm interested in all kinds to improve my skills. :D It can be a good talk via net, or the best form were a "live" talk from face to face, with someone who's living into Hamburg as well. I have to practice the free speech into English! So has someone time for such project? Then PM me! Would love to talk to you soon... :talk1:
