I find it so interesting that people from so many different places visit this site. :D

I live in the northeastern United States-- more specifically, I live in Connecticut, although I attend university in Massachusetts for more than half of the year. I am currently a first-year student studying to become a chemistry major, possibly environmental chemistry. I would also like to minor in German if I have enough room in my schedule. I think it's a fine language.

In the past, I've studied Spanish for two years, Greek for three years, and Latin for four years. I'm not fluent in anything but English, though. :( Hopefully that will change.

Bear (not bare, sorry!) with me means “be patient with me”. Of course I understand German, after all I am a native German . I have never been to Herford, but I have heard of it.
I have moved to Great Britain because I love the country and because I could not find a proper job in Germany. I had a job, but I was not happy with it and felt the urge to do something completely new. So I had the idea to change my life completely. Why have you come to Germany?
I think that's just great, that you could just get up and move away... sometimes I dream about doing that, but the world is so big to me, and I'm so tied down. Maybe it's because I live in America... we're so far away from everyone else! Except Canada, of course, and I guess Mexico, but I'm pretty far from Mexico, too. I'd love to one day live in Germany or the Netherlands. I feel like sometimes I belong somewhere around there... I'm so fascinated by people, opinions, and things from that area.
Bitte korrigiert mein Deutsch. Ich bin noch Anfänger. (:

Well it's certainly not an easy step to leave your country, family and friends behind to start something completely new, but it might be worth it. One thing which is totally silly though is to go to a country if you do not speak the language. There's this show on UK TV and it's about emigrants, who go back to their native countries because they couldn't make it in their new chosen homes. The main reason was: they couldn't get a job because they weren't able to speak the language. If you go to another country and have the wish to settle down, try to be fluent in the language first. Too many people go with the idea "Once I'm there the language comes naturally." That's nonsense.
WICHTIG! Anfragen per PN werden ignoriert. Danke.

Well, I'm studying German in school, and Dutch on the side, so I would not be throwing myself into an entirely foreign element. (: I do agree, though, that it is important to try to be as fluent as possible before moving to a country. Only so much can be learned through dialogue. That's why English is taught in American and British schools, and German is taught in German schools, and so on.
Bitte korrigiert mein Deutsch. Ich bin noch Anfänger. (:

Hi everybody, I'm from Germany, but right now I'm in Ecuador as an exchange student and I'm a little worried about my English because I've forgotten quite a lot... Well, I read many English books, and I understand them just perfectly, but I really can't speak anymore so I thought I should practise it right here

Hey everyone!

I'm pretty new in this forum. It's really interesting that so many people from different countries come together here. It's gorgeous! I hope I can chat with you and improve my english at the same time. That would be fantastic. :freu:

Normally I live in Germany, Pfaffenhofen which is close to munich but since a few month I'm living in Finland.

A loooooong time ago :D I learned english at school and since a while I try to refresh it. What I have tried so far is to watch TV, read a book and speak as often as possible. Here in Finland I sometimes have the possibility to speak english but not that much.

I'm a fan of California, more precisely from San Francisco down to the South of California. Last year and this year I was third times in Palm Springs all in all. How do you like California?
Bye the way: I'll appreciate your correction as well. Many thanks. :danke:

Hope to hear from you soon.

Silke :wink2:
