Todd Anderson and his friends from the private boy’s boarding school „Welton“ can hardly believe that their school life has changed completely, since their new English teacher John Keating asked them to do something special of their lives.
From Keating encouraged they let revive the by years founded „Dead Poets Society“- a secret
society in which they can give free rein, exempt from the constraints and expectations, to their feelings.
As Keating opens them up the world of poetry, they discover not only the beauty of the language, but also the significance of the moment (carpe diem). But soon it turns out that this new freedom has got tragic consequences.

Welton Academy is a private boy’s boarding school nestled in the remote hills of Vermont. The school has been 100 years in existence and has got four pillars: tradition, honour, discipline and excellence. It’s the best preparing school at the United Stats of America and the pupils of Welton come from rich parents, who want only the best for their children. Welton Academy has strict rules of behaviour to discipline the pupils. Todd Anderson and the teacher Mr. Keating are new on Welton Academy with a director named Mr. Nolan.

Mr. John Keating is a new charismatic English teacher at Welton Academy and he teaches English and Physical Education. Some years ago he was a pupil himself at this school and created the “Dead Poets Society”. At the first lesson he tells the students that they can call him "O Captain! My Captain!"if they dare. He teaches the boys in an unusual manner and wants them to seize the day (Carpe Diem). The other teachers don’t like this very much. He thinks that, if you live your life it is better then always to learn at school. So he tells the boys after a few lessons to write a poem.
An example for his teaching is the second lesson. They read the introduction of “Understanding Poetry”. After the first paragraph Mr. Keating shouts and orders them to rip out the first page. He asserts that all, which is written here, is wrong. In another unusual lesson John Keating reminds his student to look at the world in a different way, after the read another poem.

In the novel Charlie Dalton is a very self-confident boy and his parents are rich. He holds that life is easy and uncomplicated. So he often acts inconsiderately. At a meeting of the “Dead Poets Society” in the cave he relabels himself to “Nuwanda” and he enchants a girl, named Gloria, with poems.
To impress Mr. Keating, Charlie writes an article about the “Dead Poets Society” and demands from the management to allow girls at Welton Academy. When Mr. Nolan convokes the pupils inside the stone chapel to find the culprit for the article, Charlie reveals himself with a provocative action. He lets his phone ring very loudly and speaks into it:
“Welton Academy. Hello. Yes, he is. Just a moment. Mr. Nolan, it’s for you. It’s God. He says we should have girls at Welton.” So Charlie has to go to the office of Mr. Nolan and he canes Charlie. Nolan relegates him from the school, because he doesn’t sign the document of Mr. Keating’s dismissal.

Hi FeroX1337,

Oh my GOD I am loving this film... Doesn't matter I'm trying to find your mistakes, If there are any...

Todd Anderson and his friends at privat boys bording school "Welton" can hardly believe that their school life as completely changed since their new English teacher Mr. John Keating thaught them to seize the day.
Encouraged by Mr. Keating they re-establish the forbidden and secret "Dead Poet's Society", which has already been founded years ago, by Mr. Keating himself.
which they can give free rein, exempt from the constraints and expectations, to their feelings.
den Satz verstehe ich nicht ganz, soll es heißen, dass sie ihren Gefühlen freien Lauf lassen sollen, weil ich den eingeschobenen Satz im Zusammenhang nicht kapiere.
This Society allows them to give free rein to their feelings.
When Mr. Keating opened up the world of poetry, they didn't only discover the beauty of language, but also the significance of the phrase "Carpe Diem". Soon it turnes out that this freedom involves a tragic outcome.

[Würde ich hier nicht wiedeholen, ich nehme einmal ein Zitat aus dem Film]
Welton Arcademy is the best preparative school in the United States located in the remote hills of Vermont. The school has been existing for 100 years then. And the four pillars are: tradition, honor, disciplin and exelence. Its students come from rich families, who want the best for their children.
Welton has got strict rules of behavior and discipline to train their students.
Todd Anderson left Balincrest and Mr. Keating is from the highly regarded Chester school in London, both left to gratuate and teach at Welton, with its principal Dr. Nolan.

Mr. John Keating is the new charismatic English and PE teacher at Welton. Year ago, he had been to "Helton" himself. Students who are more daring can call him "Oh Captain, My Captain!", which is a quote from a poem by Walt Whitman about Mr. Abraham Lincoln.
He also teaches them to seize the day (carpe diem).
Other teachers can't agree with the way to teach the socratic method. To get familiar with poetry he wants the students to write a poem.
THe first example for his weird method was, when they re the "Introduction of Understanding Poetry". After reading the first paragraph Mr. Keating turnes in order to rip out the entire introduction. He asserts that all this doesn't have anything to do with poetry.
We are not lying a pipe, we are talking about poetry
The other lesson, Mr. Keating told them to look at things in a different way, to come up his desk.

In this novel Charlie Dalton appars to be a very self-confident boy with rich parents. He hold that life is easy and uncomplicated. He often acts inconsideratly. During a Dead Poet's meeting he brings two girls with him, Gloria and Tina. While wooing these women and inventing a poem for them, he renames himself as "Nuwanda".
To impress everybody he pulished an article about the Dead Poet's Society in the school newspaper and demants to allow girls at Welton Arcademy.
When Dr. Nolan red the article he orders every student to the stone chapel to find the daring publisher of this article. This made his do a very joke. He let a phone ring, picked up and passed to Dr. Nolan with the words: “Welton Academy. Hello. Yes, he is. Just a moment. Mr. Nolan, it’s for you. It’s God. He says we should have girls at Welton.”
So Charlie has to go to Dr. Nolan's office, who canes Charlie. Nolan relegates him from school, because he didn't sign the document of Mr. Keating’s resignation.

So, weiß nicht, ob ich alles gefunden hab, aber ich habe noch en bisschen was eingesetzt...
Und wo bleibt der spannende Rest????
Oh Captain, My Captain...

Hier ist der 2. Teil:

Todd Anderson:
He is new on Welton Academy and is a very shy and reserved pupil. His parents want him to be a doctor or a lawyer like his older brother, without to respect Todd’s dreams and wishes.
At the beginning of the novel Todd feels worthless, but with help of Mr. Keating he hopes to reduce his fear of speaking in front of people and his uncertainness.
At the end of the novel Todd Anderson has to sign the document of Mr. Keating’s dismissal, too. When Keating want to collect his belongings from the next to the classroom, Todd surprisingly says: “They make me to sign it!” he climbs on his table “O Captain, my Captain!”.
The other boys do the same and Keating says:”Thank you boys…” and he goes out of the classroom.

Neil Perry:
Neil Perry comes from poor circumstances and he is a romantic boy. His father plans Neil’s future life. In Welton academy he shares a room with the new student Todd Anderson and he tries to integrate him into the group. He is a very self-confident and dutiful pupil and to act in a play is Neil’s biggest dream. He plays Puck in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Mr. Perry doesn’t want his son to act in this play and Neil asks Mr. Keating for advice. Although Keating advices him to ask for his father’s permission, he doesn’t do it and goes to the play. At his first public appearance his father attends too. After the play, Mr. Perry takes him in his house and threatens to send him to a military academy. At this evening Neil cogitates in his room. Because Neil is so desperate, he commits suicide with a revolver of his father.

Knox Overstreet:
At the first part of the novel Know Overstreet falls in love with Chris, but she already has a boyfriend, Chat Danbury. Knox always has to think about Chris since he saw her at Mr. and Mrs. Danbury house. He ignores Chat and tries to meet her. So Knox calls her one evening and she invites him to a party of Chat. He touches her at breasts and Chat throws him out of the house. Knox becomes creative and determined to meet her. For example he writes a love poem for her and drives to her school by bike und reads it out in front of Chris’s class. At the evening of the first public appearance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, Chris comes to Welton Academy. She was very angry and asks him why he did this at her school. Knox answers to her, that if she doesn’t like him after tonight, he stays away forever. Then they go to the theatre. She likes it and goes with Knox and the other boys to the cave. After the meeting they kiss each other.

My own opinion:
At the beginning a thought reading an English book can be very difficult and boring. But from page to page it was getting more interesting and I wanted to read it to the end.
The story deals with things which take place in my own live. I am a pupil, too and it fascinated me that a teacher like Mr. Keating has the heart to accomplish his own teaching.
At the end of the story you can see that education of Keating was very well. The shy and reserved pupil Todd Anderson becomes a strong and self-confident boy who was the first who stood up to thanks him.

Summary:

Todd Anderson and his friends at Welton Academy, a private all-boys preparatory school, can hardly believe that their school life has completely changed, since their new English teacher Mr. John Keating asked them

to seize the day.

Encouraged by Mr. Keating they re-establish the forbidden and therefore secret "Dead Poet's Society", which was founded years ago by Mr. Keating himself. This secret society allows them to express their thoughts and feelings through poetry, but without any traditional constraints or (false) expectations. When Mr. Keating opened their mind to the world of poetry, they discover the beauty of language and the significance of the phrase "Carpe Diem". Unfortunately the situation changed dramatically after a tragic incident which showed all of them that the freedom of their mind is not shared by others.

The story deals with a topic I can relate too. I am a pupil, too and it fascinated me
that a teacher like Mr. Keating has the courage to use his own methods for teaching poetry in such a traditional school.
At the end of the story you can see that the education of Mr. Keating was very good. The shy and restrained pupil Todd Anderson becomes a strong and self-confident boy, who was the first to stand up for him and thereby thanking him.
