Okay, little by little :D :

@doro: I'm in grade 10 now, and English is my third foreign language. So we have to learn it quicker than the other students who just have to learn two foreign languages. Until our "Abitur" we have to know the English language as well as they do. But moreover, I've got a great English teacher and the lessons are really, really interesting and useful. And because I'm that interested in my favourite music, I try to translate as mamy lyrics as possible by myself and I've started to read more Englisch than German books.
...Matchbox20 is a good band! I don't know many songs but a few and they've been quite OK.

@nimloth: Hello! I'm really sorry for your bad English teacher. I can't imagine how terrible your lessons are but you seem very dissapointed and I know that I would lose my mind if I had such a guy in front of me like you seem to have. :?
I like The lord of the rings too and at the moment I'm thinking about reading it in English...(I'm not that sure yet)

concerning "TROY": Well, I don't think there was too much blood and fighting-scenes and stuff. The real war in Troy lasted nearly 10 years, now imagine a movie about ten f*ckin' years of war! I think the scenes in which the acters fight aren't too much violent. The director seems to have found the right way to show such a fight.
I saw the movie together with my class and after watching it we talked about the characters and the real "Ilias". And I agree with you: somewhere it's a typical Hollywood-story, but nevertheless it's worth watching it...( at least for Brad's butt! :P )

Ulrike hat geschrieben:Hi nimoth,

welcome to our board. I suppose you found through google, didn't you? It's a good thought to teach yourself more English, you will need it for your Abitur.

But what's wrong with your English teacher? Are the lessons boring? Is he/she lazy?

CU Ulrike

The problem is,he just doesn't challenge us.He speaks German in the lessons, doesn't care about us complaining and in my eyes alle we do is way too easy.Almost everybody says so,even those who aren't too good in English.

@Kid A: The original version of LOTR is very hard to read. I've only read some parts of it,favourite chapters..it's of course and advantage if you know the book. But since there is quite old language used-vocabulary,the way sentences are formed (?)- it's difficult to understand.Though I love that old English,it's really beautiful.Alas,he cried.. ;-)

LotR is very very hard to read! I tried it! I prefer easy books, for people at our age, for which english isn't the mother tongue. Dear Nobody from Berlie Doherty was really interesting! We read it in english lessons. I also read Harry Potter in english! But I'm really into those books! I love Harry Potter! Maybe you try one of those books! Much easir than LotR

Well, okay. But you can't stop me from trying it. I will do it...
I also read the latest Harry Potter in English, but it was more like...just for fun. I'm not that enthusiastic about these stories because at the moment the people just try to make money with the movies and the merchandise.
Okay, LOTR is the same problem, but you can't kid little children with this story because they aren't able to understand it and so, noone would buy some Frodo-cups or Frodo-pencils or Frodo-Shirts.

@nimloth: your English is very good! How many years have you been learning it now?

Hello,

@Ulrike Yes,we have talked to him and so did other classes. Our principal joined some English lessons, but somehow there's nothing resulting from it.
My only comfort is,that after this year he will teach at another school.

Thanks! :D I'm learning English in the 7th year now.

You're right with what you say about the merchandise.
This is what I hate so much!LOTR,honestly, means a lot to me and it hurts to see that most of the time it's just about making money. Before the movies were made, there was just the book,no plastic rings,so-called elvish jewel or "girlie-hobbit-shirts." It piss** me off to see that..but unfortunately, people buy even the stupiest things.

You're absolutely right. But it's not just the movies. It's everything. You can't watch telly without this horrible breaks all the time. And what about music television? You suppose you can see videos there, but today, you must be very lucky to see some. All the time these stupid American shows and the awful text-messages-advertisings. :x
I'm really tired of it, and lately I haven't watch TV at all. Instead of entertaining me, it goes on my nerves.

Thanks for this interesting link, but I'm afraid I'm too lazy to have a look at it every day. Even if I'm watching TV, I never watch the news. That's a really bad habit, I know, but I don't want to see it.
So I'm a bit helpless in my Politic-lessons, but that doesn't bother me. I know that I should change my mind in that point, but I haven't done it since today. My fault and my problem. :?

Well, sometimes I turn to CNN and watch the news there or I read the headlines on the bottom of the screen. But not that often. Only if there isn't anything else to watch  .

Hey! That sounds really nice. I wish I would know any "real" Americans or Britains, but until today, I've never been that lucky to meet someone. Or even to made friends!
But I look forward to a trip to England, that has been my dream for a long time now and I hope it will come true some time.
Unfortunately I'm not given the possibillity to do a trip to England with our school or our teacher. Because I'm living next to France, we just have exchanges with Franch students. It starts in primary school and I've made horrible experiences with these trips.
So I'm not willing to take part in one of these exchanges again, only if we went to England. But it's hard to find English students for such an exchange, so they don't take place.

Hoi
I am obelixx, a very young poster in this forum. I have asked myself many time, how it would be, if i hadn't so big problems in english, but i couldn't give me an answer. I hope that I learn enough in the holidays, because I have to write my final exam next year. I think this board would help me, by my problem !...THX...

what do you mean about that?

mfg obelixx

PS: If there are anywhere bugs/errors (what is the correct word), please correct it in few words THX !

Well, obelixx you want me to correct your mistakes, here is my correction:

....many times
...if I
...in English
....during the holidays
....this board will help me to improve my English

How come you're so in trouble with your English... :?: I think your decision to hold on with exercises is very good. Just take a look on our "Startseite" and choose a grammar/vocabulary topic each day.
Besides you should buy a book to exercises offline, also. And feel free, not ashamed, to ask us, okay? Then your exam will work out, I'm quite sure.
