I didn’t really know where to post this. First I thought the Joke-forum might be the right place. But since it’s just funny but not a joke I decided the “English only”-forum to be more appropriate.
Somewhere on this board there was a discussion on the differences of AE and BE the other day which I had to think of when – in a little bookshop - I came across a reproduced version of a pamphlet issued by the United States war department in 1942 titled “Instruction for American servicemen in Britain”. It was distributed to American servicemen who were going to Britain to prepare for the invasion of occupied Europe. Since many of them had never been abroad before the pamphlet was supposed to prepare the American GIs for life in a “different” country and to try to prevent any friction between them and the Britons.
I was able to find it on the internet, too.
See for yourself…
