HI,
in our English test is always a text, and we must make a summary of a passage, answer questions and so on.
My biggest problem is always the understanding of the text, because there are always so many words in it, I haven't ever heard before. Furthermore it is difficult for me to sum it up with own words.
What's the best way to manage this???? Are there any rules that could help me?
Summary problem!!!!

Dear Piri
I don't want to look like a show off, when I answer you. Actually my english isn't good at all , but we also write tests with exercises like this. Well, I think it is the best , you read the text three times , then you don't loke at it andthink about it (Also when you don't understand a few words) And later you look at it once and I can imagine I will be more easy for you.
Well, that's what i usually do..
Hope, I could help you

I don'T know why you all have such problems with the summary. If you don't understand the text, you can't do any task belonging to it!
Reading-comprehension is one of the most important skills you have to learn. You have to read the text again and again until you understand it. If it helps, make little notes for each paragraph.
Good luck!

Hello Piri!
I am having many papers from my teacher about how to write a summary.
Here are 8 Golden rules for writing a summary:
1. You have to use Present Tense! When looking back use the Present Perfect.
2. Make your summary as long as necessary and as short as possible without leaving out important information.
3.Your style should be neutral and bound to facts; you must use formal language; never forget to write complete sentences.
4. You are not allowed to write an own fascinating story.
5. Never quote from the text.
6. You have to sum up the story or text in a chronological order.
7. Make sure that a person who does not know the story gets all necessary information/understands what the story is all about.
8. Never give your own opinion (I like the story/I don´t like the story).
I hope it will help you. If you want more infomation, answer here an i will give you more about how to write a summary.
P.s. When I´m writing a summary I make some importen points, which I want to write and than I write it without the text.
