Yesterday, her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the UK's longest-serving monarch, has died aged 96, after reigning for over 70 years. 

The country now enters a period of mourning, as the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, as well as millions of people around the world, mourn profoundly the loss of our cherished Sovereign.

The Queen is dead, long live the Queen.

The only monarch in the known history of the entire world to have reigned longer is Louis XIV but since he was four years old when he was crowned king, he didn't actually do any kinging for 14 years, so we could say that she's the current record holder.
