Some words have different meanings but limited to the context "film, book, story etc." they mean:

- plot = a series of events which form the story of a novel, play, film etc.

- setting = a place and time at which the action of a play, novel etc. takes place

- narrator = a person who tells a story, especially in a book, play or film / the person who speaks the words in a tv programme but who does not appear in it

- protagonist = the main character in a play, film or book etc.

- antagonist = a person who strongly opposes sb/sth

- symbol (for example the pigeon stands for freedom) = a person, an object, an event etc. that represents a more general quality or situation
