Hi Pennsylvanian,

thanks for this explanation and the interesting interpretation. And don't worry about writing in English, it's much appreciated - we're an English Forum.
It's just that sometimes it's easier for us to explain things in German or we simply find it more convenient to express our thoughts in our mother tongue. But we generally prefer English - if possible!

Cheers

??

Oder ohen das "will"?

After having had a chance to listen to the different versions of the song several times, I have to question the validity of the word "AIDS" in these lyrics. To me, it doesn't sound like he's saying "AIDS" at all, but "they."

I've never heard of anyone going around testing for stress in the ghetto (I'm laughing as I picture this ), so I confess I'm still somewhat baffled by the meaning here.

In standard English, the "will" is required. It's removal is purely dialetical, as is the use of the word "brother" here. *Most* people would not phrase similar sentiments in this way, even conversationally.

Zeile angeht.

Meiner Meinung nach sagt Tupac ganz deutlich (naja, verhältnismäßig deutlich, versteht sich ;)): "They tested with stress that they under" --> (ein bisschen grammatische Reinigung) --> "They are being tested with stress that they are under" --> (sinngemäß) --> "They are being tested by the stress that they are under" (i.e. the stress that they're under is testing them).

Simple, really! ;)
