Hello everyone!
I'm 16 and I have a question.
How long does it take you to speak a language fluently?
This question may sounds silly but I just like languages - none more so than English.
Is it even possible to learn a language without living in an English-speaking country?
Thanks in advance for all answers!
Peace,
snarly!

Yes, it is possible to learn the English language up to the point when you may rightfully say that you speak English fluently.snarly hat geschrieben:Hello everyone!

Our group of German students was very big (nearly 100). Therefore many of my fellow German students didn't speak English very often
while they were here (because you could easily find Germans to talk to) and additionally some used every opportunity to rush back to Germany.
So I think, they didn't use every opportunity to improve their skills as much as possible.
The main advantage of living in an English-speaking country is that it's much easier to find people speaking English.
But in the end it depends on yourself how effectively you use your time there or in Germany to immerse yourself in an English-speaking environment.

Thanks for you answer Delfino!
Unfortunately, it's very difficult to find English-speaking people ;-( .
Therefore I try to read English books (easy reader) and to chat with native speaker.
I hope to get the chance to move to England or the US one day.
All the best,
snarly!

Good language skills in the native language of the country you are moving to are a significant prerequisite.snarly hat geschrieben:Thanks for you answer Delfino!

Re: How long does it take you to speak a language fluently?
I don't really know why I to leave Austria (I'm not German), I think it's because like the American way of life
.
But I don't want to leave Austria for good.
I try to do the Matura/Abi successfully and than I want to study computer science because I want to become a software programmer.
And I want to do a year abroad (Auslandsstudium meine ich damit).
Peace,

I suggest you take a close look at the curriculum of the course you choose.snarly hat geschrieben:I don't really know why I want to leave Austria (I'm not German).

Re: How long does it take you to speak a language fluently?
Why do you think Software engineering might suits my future plans better?
I love programming! Currently I attend a HTL (Höhere Technische Lehranstalt) with focus on computer science.
At school I do a lot of programming (mostly C++, C#, Java and PHP).

Oh, I didn't that.
And, no, I haven't read the curriculum yet.
But by the time I begin a study many things will chance anyway, I guess!
