Complete the following sentences with an infinitive or a (preposition) + gerund as appropriate.

I can’t help (laugh) when I think of that story.
I can’t help laughing when I think of that story.

I wanted (pay) the bill, but he insisted (invite) all of us.
I wanted to pay the bill, but he insisted inviting all of us.

What I said was true. I don’t regret (say) it.
What I said was true. I don’t regret saying it.

Choose the correct form of to make or to do. (do, make, doing, making)

The windows could ….. with cleaning.
The windows could do with cleaning.

There is no sense ….. such a fuss about such an unimportant matter.
There is no sense making such a fuss about such an unimportant matter.

If you don’t have any cigarettes, you’ll have to ….. without.
If you don’t have any cigarettes, you’ll have to making without.

She is not used to ….. speeches.
She is not used to make speeches.

Poor farmers are finding it increasinglydifficult to ….. a living.
Poor farmers are finding it increasinglydifficult to make a living.

“I can’t read her writing. Can you ….. out this word?”
“I can’t read her writing. Can you make out this word?”

Das ist goldrichtig Duckduck: She is not used to making speeches. – Sie ist nicht gewohnt Reden zu halten.

Falsch: She is not used to make speeches. Ein richtiger Satz mit “make” wäre: She used not to make speeches. – Früher hielt sie keine Reden.

Hoffentlich hat Lori deine Korrektur noch gesehen und wir beide werden das nie mehr vergessen!
