Beitrag von Hank »

Hello,
I'm new here in the forum.Becuase I'm right before the Abitur I checked some old classtests and found a lot of mistakes I don't understand. Unfortunately my teacher isn't available at the moment so that I'm not able to ask him.
Maybe you can help me. I would be very thankful for that.

first I write the words I wrote then the mistake (St - Stil, G - Grammar, etc.) then what I meant to say (in brackets).

1) live in order... St. Germ. (lebten ordentlich, geordnet, diszipliniert)

2) More and more the people live... Stellung G ( Immer mehr lebten die Leute...)

3) the leader overtakes (der Führer übertrumpft)

4) they play the same game in spite they have democracy...Konstr. (obwohl sie Demokratie haben...)

8) things you usually wouldn't do because you don't have the time...G (Dinge die man normalerweise nicht tun würde, weil man keine Zeit hat)

9) new friends with that you can...G (neue Freunde mit denen man...kann)

10) unknown in Germany what I don't understand (in Deutschland unbekannt, was ich nicht verstehe)

11) Further you don't have (Überdies ...)

12) responsible for a group what is very important (wieso kein what hier? wann kann ich what verwenden?)

13) I would look on the pros and couns firstly (wann nehm ich firstly wann first?)

14) forgotten learning (vergessen zu lernen)

15) new friends with that you can stay in contact ( ich dachte that kann man immer im Relativsatz verwenden, egal ob Sache oder Person?)

16) she tries to integrate best in it (sie versucht sich am besten zu integrieren)

17) to handle as rebellious as in the second ending (so aufrührerisch wie...)

18 )try to handle it (versuchen es zu regeln)

19) the chaos influencing my life (das Chaos, das mein Leben beeinflusst)

20) she arrived at the same time my parents did...Konstr. (sie kam zur gleichen Zeit, wie meine Eltern an)

21) her usually clothes (ihre Alltagsklamotten)

22) making a big problem (ein großes Problem (aus etwas) machen)

23) And not enough ( Und nicht genug)

24) Look at the street ( Schau auf die Straße)

25) in the age...at (auf dem Alter im Englischen? in passt doch besser:)?)

26) talk to my parents on that issue (mit meinen Eltern über das Thema reden)

27) nothing more to discuss ( nichts mehr zu diskutieren)

28) best regards..(Am Ende vom persönlichen Brief welche Abschlussform?

29) she has a job in her town (sie hat einen Job in ihrer Stadt)

40) up to this time (bis heute)

41) I am asking you with this letter (Mit diesem Brief frage ich dich)

42) is it still your desire having me in the USA (willst du immer noch, dass
ich bei dir in den USA bin)

Hello,

You've posted quite a few examples to correct! Many of your examples appear out of context, I would like to see how these sentences appear in a broader context. For example:

1) live in order... St. Germ. (lebten ordentlich, geordnet, diszipliniert)

My comment - I need to see how these words fit in a complete sentence or paragraph.

2) More and more the people live... Stellung G ( Immer mehr lebten die Leute...)

My comment - What is the rest of the sentence? The word 'live' here can mean leben or wohnen depending on the rest of the sentence.

I thought of living in discipline...
More and More only the more and more is a mistake, but I don't know why.

But some sentences are just wrong, because I think in German, and so maybe by reading it you can correct it. But I understand, that you can't know what I mean if you don't know how a German would say.
And so unfortunately I also cannot write it how I mean it in English, because then I would write it and would not ask. So I know how I would say it in English, but that's seems to be often wrong.

Hello,

For the first sentence you could say "I live a disciplined life".

For the next sentence, "more and more" is a correct translation for "immer mehr".

If I want to translate something from German to English, I must read more of the text - so instead of a few words I need to read a full sentence or paragraph. This is what we mean by 'context' - so please write the full sentence or paragraph in German and I will try to translate it for you.

Marek.
