Welcome to the forum.
Most of us are alive here, I guess. What do you want to talk about?

Sielinas hat geschrieben:Hello everybody,
is anyone alive here? (:lol: sorry but I had a great laugh about this - Sielina, alive is the opposite to dead!) I just want to say thatit'sthis is a really useful website. I'm looking for English speaking friends to keep fit in English (to improve my English) and who Icouldcan communicate with ( now! here one could also use the word "whom" but I wouldn't want to confuse you with old fashioned words .
Hello Sielina and welcome,
I know some of us are getting on a bit (getting old) but we're not quite dead yet . I'm not to sure what you wanted to ask here, so please try again.
Best wishes,
Caro

Re: Where are you from?
Methinks, ye youngsters jest about us venerables, whose life span has been long, too much...
Well, call me Duckspeare if you like but stop talking about ghosts, I'm easily frightened.
And now for something completely different: No 1: The Larch!
(I've tried this one before but got no response. Don't any of you know Monty Python? Ha, ye unlearnéd young hussies (and how do I call the males?)!
Enough of this. Back to the "who/whom" business.
In looking for information I stumbled upon this:
"whom" must be used in combination with a preposition. And in these cases the preposition must not stand at the end of the sentence.
So Sielinas' sentence should read:
"I'm looking for English speaking friends with whom I can communicate to improve my English."

Aye, that's correct, too, caro64! Unless Duckduck proves us (those who speak English from their guts, if you know what I mean ) us wrong.

I don't think putting two "with"s into the sentence will solve the problem, though, or will it???.
I'm confused So am I!!!
It was probably all my fault again, getting mixed up in the different levels of style you wonderful people have. Of course it is OK to put the preposition at the end of a sentence (see preposition stranding) in the informal style.
But what can I do, some of us, the elderly I suppose, just are nature's aristocrats and can't help talking, you know, shall we say... a little differently?! (nudge, nudge, know what I mean, know what I mean, nudge nudge???)

Anybody who loves them is my friend! So caro and Keswick, like it or not, we're buddies from now on!!!

Re: Where are you from?
Welcome to the forum from Syke.
2 - Alle Nichtpersonen sind sächlich, deshalb geht hier nur "it" oder eben im Plural "them".
Beachte:
then = dann (zeitlich)
than = als (vergleichend)
Das zeitliche "als" ist übrigens "when".
1 - Das muss irgendwie ersetzt werden, hier ginge zum Beispiel "I'd be very happy then"Tanne hat geschrieben:Hello,
