What does "Opfer" mean?

Ok maybe this is a stupid question, but....
Sometimes when I watch a German video on YouTube and I'll see "_____ ist ein OPFER!!!!" in the comments. The dictionaries define it as a "victim" or "sacrifice", but it still makes no absolutely sense to me. I'm guessing that it is used as an insult, but can someone tell me what it means in English/what an English equivalent would be?

Someone once told me that the Turks use it to call someone "white trash", but I'm not sure if that is correct.....??

You can translate this with "Victim" or "Loser"
