Aufgaben
Hallo!
Also:
Text: (steht im Buch!)
Dear 1015,
I think that adverts for beauty products are cheating advertisements. They show lovely models with pure skin, shiny hair, blue eyes and great clothes putting on cream and saying things like, 'You'll look younger by the minute.' Why can't they show somebody who has not yet used the product, get them to use it and then show what they looked like afterwards, so you can judge?
Holly
1. Sum up what Holly complains about in her letter.
Holly complains about advertisement. There they always show perfect models and Holly asks wether they can show somebody who has not yet used the products and show how they looked like afterwards. Then you can have your own opinion of it.
2. Give your opinion of Holly's suggestion about how adverts should be made.
I am of the same opinion as Holly. It is a great suggestion because so you can see the real effect of the products. I can imagine that a lot of people want to see the result of the creams and other products they buy.
Vielen Dank schon mal!
Gruß,
Manhattan

So, und weiter gehts:
Text (steht im Buch!):
Dear 1014,
In response to Rebecca McCracken's letter on the danger of alcoholic drinks which look and taste like juice, I don't think people are too stupid or ignorant to be able to read the side of a can or bottle and check the alcohol content. I, like most people, am quite capable of this task.
James
(den letzten Satz versteh ich nicht)
3. Discuss the point James makes in his letter.
Unlike James I very much doubt whether everyone reads the side of a can or a bottle and check the alcohol content. My personal view is that almost everybody ones about the dangers of alcoholic drinks but (they) forget it.
4. Write Rebecca's letter to 1015.
Dear 1015,
I think alcoholic drinks constitute a big threat. They look and taste like juice so you don't taste the alcohol inside. (Vor allem, die Übersetzung weiß ich nicht, guck gleich aber mal bei LEO nach) youth drive by car home and cause an accident. In my opinion those/these (?) alcoholic drinks should be selled just to older people or peolpe that don't drive by car.
Rebecca
Danke

I, like most people, am quite capable of this task.

Manhattan

-> Holly objects to the ad tricking the users. Since the firms always present brilliant models and melodic sounds, Holly poses a question whether they can demonstrate someone being unexperienced as to products and show how looks that user afterwards. He accordingly means you are able to form your opinion of it.
-> First of all, I generally agree the opinion and attitudes towards the advertisments and the like, for that kind of presentation certainly kids the consumers getting the wrong picture of that product. For example, I have fallen myself for that creams in the childhood where I am a fan of toys; consequently, I think that ads to pertain the children being amenable ( das ist geraten O_o) to that.
I furthermore am of the opinion the companies actually have the duty to inform about their products honestly because that is one piece of the so-called kindness of customers to my mind. Only a honest firm should intrinsically sell something, so that the buyers are certain they buy a product fullfilling their needs.
Otherwise, especially by the current economical situation, agencies partly are compelled to overdo their demonstrations and ads respectively to draw in new buyers and even consequently new people assuring their financial state. I thus have the understanding for that step surely unless I ignore the moral aspects.
Holly complains about advertisement. Ganz gut gemacht; "same opinion with (!) ..." "a lot of .. wants" .I am of the same opinion as Holly. It is a great suggestion because so you can see the real effect of the products. I can imagine that a lot of people want to see the result of the creams and other products they buy.

Vielleicht sagt dir der Ausdruck "be in sympathy with" auch was.
|¯
be in sympathy with/sympathize with
[verb phrase] to think that someone's aims or ideas, especially political ideas, are right and that you should support them
Many Democrats were in sympathy with Reagan's policies on Nicaragua.
_|
Vielleicht höchstens "like", nicht "as" in diesen Fall.
|¯
WORD CHOICE : as, like
Use as in comparisons in the expression as ... as, with an adjective(!) or adverb(!) in between:
Basketball is as popular as football here.
as is also used in the expressions not so ... as and the same (...) as:
He is the same age as me.
Use like in comparisions followed by a noun:
A movie is not like a book. Like other people, he values his privacy.

Amazonas -> DCE eingeben.
