Past/Present Progressive?

Hi!

Ich hab ein Problem:
Ich mein was Simple Present ist das weiß ich ja ( Einfache Gegenwart ). Aber es hat doch ne Ähnlichkeit mit Present Progressive. Wann benutt man Present bzw. Past Progressive überhaupt? Ich mein das hier:
I'm going to the cinema --> Könnte sowohl Simple Present als auch Present Progressive sein oder nich?
