The first riddle on this board - have fun!

This riddle, one of the world's oldest, is still good for starting arguments. A man is looking at a portrait. "Whose picture is that?" someone asks, and the man replies: "Brothers and sisters have I none, but that man's father is my father's son." At whose picture is the man looking?

You are right! :freu:
You just need to read it carefully and then it is not that confusing as it seems to be.

Well, that's not easy... :mrgreen:

I list some facts to make the riddle easier to solve:

4 years ago:
John = Jeff + 12
Jack = Jeff x 2

Today:
Jack = Jeff + 12
John = Jeff x 2

It looks quite similar. I've never been good at mathematics, so help me, please! :rolleyes:

Second try (with the help of my boyfriend :D )

(A) Jack = Jeff + 12
(B) John = Jeff x 2
(C) John = Jack + 4
(D) (Jack - 4) = (Jeff - 4) x 2

(B) = (C) = John:
Jeff x 2 = Jack + 4
=> Jeff = (Jack + 4) / 2

(A):
Jack = ( (Jack + 4) / 2 ) + 12 | -12
Jack - 12 = ( (Jack + 4) / 2 ) | x 2
2 Jack - 24 = Jack + 4 | - Jack - 4
Jack - 28 = 0
=> Jack = 28

(A):
28 = Jeff +12
=> Jeff = 16

(B):
John = 16 x 2 = 32

(actually my boyfriend solved it all alone)

I found another riddle. Have fun!

There is a number. If it is not a multiple of 4, then it is between 60 and 69. If it is a multiple of 3 it is between 50 and 59. If it is not a multiple of 6 it is between 70 and 79. What is the number?

A man on his way to town comes to a fork in the road and he doesn't know which way to go. There is no signpost but there is a house where two brothers live. One brother always tells the truth, and one always lies, which the lost man is aware of but he does not know which one is the liar.
The lost man is supposed to aks only one question to only one of the brothers to learn the right way. What might this question be?
