Thank you, Madam Keswick.

How about this one:

It is an outside thing but not an outsider, in fact  lots of men and women and children use it and need it.

It is mostly black…..( my daughter prefers  it in pink) and fits into the palm of  your hand.

Please,  feel  free to correct my sentences.

It is made of  plastic.
Sometimes it's plugged sometimes it's unplugged.

Guest10-15, un umbrella? Un unplugged umbrella?

Schuyler, you are almost there.

Another hint: my mother (67 years old) couldn't work with it for quite a while.......

plugged umbrella

I found this definition for "unplugged" here : http://www.dict.cc/englisch-deutsch/unplugged.html

unplugged: ausgestreckt
plugged: eingesteckt

Take a closer look, please. It says: " ausgesteckt" (electr.)
and not : " ausgestreckt"
It is only a letter but this letter does change the meaning of the word.

I'm  sorry but it is not an MP3 Player.  But it is something I'm using right now , writing on the computer.

You can click with it.
