Re: The vocabulary
Hi Silvestergirly and welcome!
I know your situation quite good. Also I had problems to learn vocabulary.
To make it easy for me to learn them I read many books and watched many films.
This is a good opportunity to learn new vocabulary quickly because you learn how to use the vocabulary in sentences.
Another good possibility is writing diary in English or letters to your friends.
Also listening to music is a pleasant chance to learn vocabulary by heart.
There are so many Things you could do.
The most important thing is you have to speak! Speak English as much as you can. You will see, you learn vocabulary very fast by using them.
I hope I helped you a bit:)
greetings
Chris

2 - This must be an ing-form because it must be a noun in this position (it forms a composite noun with vocabulary).
3 - The subject for this verb is "learning vocabulary" which is a singular noun and therefore 3rd person singular present, thus requiring the verb to end in -s.
1 - This is an adverb because it describes a property of a verb (know in your sentence).Jefferson1992 hat geschrieben:Hi Silvestergirly and welcome!

2 - If you put also in the first position in a clause it does not mean "auch" but "außerdem". Which doesn't seem to be the meaning you were after (doesn't seem to me anyway).
3 - Actually, this is a good idea only if you have those entries checked for correctness. Otherwise you probably make a habit out of mistakes you commit and nothing is as hard to get rid of as a habit.
4 - The word vocabulary is a collective noun, just like for example water. Collective nouns are singular words and even though they can be used as a singular pronoun it only applies to persons. Inanimate things always use it.
You're never too old to learn something stupid.

1 - In a sentence, when there are adverbials preceding the subject, they are separated from the clause by a comma.Silvestergirly hat geschrieben:Hi Chris,

2 - Also or too, but avoid using both. By the way, the correct position of also would have been ".. also sounds ..." before the verb.
3 - "Hardly don't know" would mean that you cannot avoid knowing. That's obviously not what you intended.
You're never too old to learn something stupid.

Re: The vocabulary
Read the newspaper. Many newspapers divide topics into themes, which you can choose according to your need. You can also check out online dictionaries and make vocabulary lists based on how frequently they appear in English. Books and movies sometimes contain words and phrases that are not so common, or they might be used in a poetic way. Wouldn't recommend using them for learning vocabulary...
