Ihr Lieben

Beitrag von Chloe »

Hello all,

I'm writing a letter to my host family who I stayed these Juni and July with. We get along with each other very well. The family is pretty big and it wouldn't be easy to greet all of them by their names. How could I translate "Hallo Ihr Lieben"? Could I write "Hello my dearest family"?

Thank you!

With best wishes,
Chloe

There are many options, depending on how well you know them and how much you like them. Why don't you use "Hello dear all", that's not a bad start for a letter to people you like.

Hello Delfino,

They aren't my friends. It's not correct to write "Hello my dearest all", is it? I have to take Keswick's suggestion ;-)

Thank you!

With best wishes,
Chloe

No, "hello my dearest all" is incorrect. Alternatively you could go for "hello my dearest" but that's more commonly used when addressing an individual person who you're close to.
