Extremely good English

Beitrag von deutscherdon »

Hi All

I just wanted to say that I have been really impressed with the exceptionally high quality of English in these forums. In many cases it is impossible to discern which of you are native speakers and which are not. That's fantastic!

Keep up the good work!

Don

Thank you. We are happy to have you here too.
Native English speakers will always be an enrichment to this forum.

Btw. I'm only an enthusiastic user of English who is working and studying in the UK.
Some other people are true professionals who studied English at university level.

May I ask where are you form and what your background is?

I guess, I was a bit distracted when I posted this earlier... :eat:

Thank you deutscherdon, that's kind of you. We might not be perfect but we are certainly trying our best.

What I like about these forums and the people posting here is the diversity of knowledge. Duckduck for example is a genius when it comes to grammar, Delfino has got a sound understanding of grammar and common usage of English, Caro is British.. what else can I add to this fact ;) .. the list could go on and on.

So yeah, people here are canny and if people find our work useful, even better!

Kind regards from the UK!

:freu: And, then there's our lovely Keswick, who lives in England, things wouldn't be the same without her.
How long have you been living there now Keswick?

Aww thanks.. you're such a darling! :D

I moved here in 2006 and I am still here, ready to settle for good. Not bad considering the fact that I only wanted to stay until summer 2007. But you know what John Lennon said: Life is what happens to you while you're busy making different plans.

Oh my, you darlings! :talk1:

And let us not forget our dear friend joy from Switzerland! Where would we be without her - always correcting the long texts when all the rest happen to be just a little on the lazy side ... . And of course tiorthan - expert (not only) in all things Celtic! :chief: Oh, and what about our Lord and Master: George the Good! :jo: And his Prince Regent Cybercosmonaut!!! :chat:

Love,
Duckduck

I am originally from a small town in Colorado, but I now live in Philadelphia. My parents are from California and Colorado, so I am pretty much west-coast, despite living on the east coast.

It is actually pretty interesting to see the difference in the language out here. They have a really strange accent, and they use the language very differently from how we use it in the west.

How long have each of you guys been studying English? What other languages do you know? What English-speaking countries have you visited?

I attended English lessons for 6 years.

I also had lessons in French and Russion, but I've forgotten nearly everything.

About 11 years ago I was in Toronto for a month and another week in New York.
Afterwards I started watching English movies and tv series to improve my English.
Since autumn 2009 I've been studying in the UK. I gained a BA (Hons) in Computing
last year and I'm now working here towards a MSc in Business Information Technology.
I've also been working full time since last year.

Btw. I was refering to your professional background.
You seem to be very observant in regard to the use of languages.

I've been learning English for 21 years ... now that makes me feel old. :|

I do know French, Dutch, Danish and Swedish. I wouldn't go as far as to say that I speak them. I can read them and understand them but speaking them would probably make a grown man cry .

I've been to Scotland and I am living in England. But I grew up with Canadian neighbours - does that count?
