Hej, eine Frage: wann benutzt man only, und wann just? Heißt ja beides "nur"...wäre super, wenn jemand ne Regel dafür kennt!

Only wird als Aussage genutzt und impliziert eine geringe Menge.

I've only 30 bucks.

Oder wenn etwas absolut einmalig ist bzw. einzigartig.

Elvis was the one and only. (--> der einzig wahre, hier würde just keinen Sinn machen)




Mit just kannst du eine knappe Zeitspanne andeuten.

Aber in der gesprochenen Sprache machen die Engländer bei sehr ähnlichen Beispielen keinen Unterschied nehme ich an.

It can be more complicated than that though:

z.B.: 1. "I have only just gone to the store."

2. "Have you just gone to the store?"

3. "I was only at the store."

4. "I *just* bought this shirt"

-- But one must be careful! The last, for example, can also be used in spoken English to indicate justification of an action. ("I just went out" or "I just "- It's not important that I went out. Usually spoken by kids to their parents.)

-- 3. I was only at the store... I did not go anywhere else.
