The terms “economic” and “sustainability” should not be construed as contrary but rather as an opportunity to promote sustainable and more efficient business. Sustainability skills and environmental awareness is a priority in today’s business world that leads to changing management requirements. Managers must actively participate in this process and integrate the sustainability goals completely into the ‘company’s structure. In my view, I will acquire the theoretical tools to implement my conception of economic and sustainability in practice during the Master program of International Business and Sustainability at one of the most renowned universities in Germany. After my graduation, I discovered my enthusiasm for economics during an internship at the financial service provider “***” in ***. This interest increased while my vocational training in *** and the subsequent study of business economics at the *** in ***. Since I grew up near Hamburg I spent a lot of time in the city that proclaimed itself as the Gateway to the world. So, it was just a matter of time until the wish came up to live and study in one of the most exciting cities of Germany.During my six-month internship at the financial service provider *** and my three-year vocational training at ***, I have gained first economic experience and was able to connect those practical experiences to the context of the theoretical lectures at the university. After finishing my vocational training, I worked at *** as a student trainee for another year and supported my colleagues to conduct market-/competitor and customer analyses. Furthermore, I took the chance to customize my business economic studies towards the “Management” program, which is one of the three available business specialisations at the ***. During my studies, I attended the course “Environmental Economics” which focused on environmental issues in an economical context within the framework of sustainable development. Content of this course like Cost-benefit analysis of environmental regulations, regulation and Pigouvian taxes, effects on the environment or human health resulting from economic activity imparted fundamentals of the interaction between economic and environment. The lecture “Corporate Strategy and Governance” discussed the balance of the interests of a company's stakeholders, such as shareholders, management, customers and the community. Courses like “International Business”, “Management Control”, “Organizational Design and Change”, “Environmental Economics” or “Corporate Strategy and Governance” imparted a broad knowledge of business operations within a national and international context.Since I customized my business economic studies towards the “Management” program, I am looking for a Master program which enables me to gain further knowledge about leading a business, while consider the ecological effects. To draw on the knowledge that I could gain during my bachelor studies I am especially interested in the fundamentals of international management and quantitative research methods for market strategies during the first semester and the international management and economics lectures during the second and third semester. Since I enjoyed the lecture “environmental economics” I am really looking forward to expand my understanding of the connection between economics and sustainability with courses of the Sustainability Management and Socioeconomically part of the master program.
