Merry Christmas & a happy new year!

Beitrag von Keswick »

Alreet m'dears,

As myest of yee might knaa , Aa've been living in The Toon fre a long time. An Aa've gathered me best (??) Geordie dialect, te wish yee aal a git merry Christmas an a happy new year 2016! *

Click Me

Twas the neet before Christmas, when aal through the hoose
Not a creature wez stirring, not even a moose .
The stockings were hung bi the chimney wi care,
In hopes tha St Nicholas soon waad be there.

The bairns were nestled aal snug in thor beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in thor heads.
An mamma in hor'kerchief, an Ah in me cap,
Had just settled wor brains fre a long winter's nap.

When oot on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
Ah sprang frem the bed te see what wez the matter.
Away te the winda Ah flew leik a flash,
Tore open the shutters an threw up the sash.

The myun on the breast o the new-fallen snaa
Gave the lustre of mid-day te objects below.
When, what te me wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, an eight tinny reindeer.

Wi a little aad driver, so lively an quick,
Ah knew in a mow it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they cyame ,
An he whistled, an shouted, an caal'd them bi name!

"Now Dasher! noo , Dancer! noo , Prancer an Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner an Blitzen!
Te the top o the porch! te the top o the wall!
Noo dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves tha before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet wi an obstacle, mount te the sky.
So up te the house-top the coursers they flew,
Wi the sleigh stowed of Toys, an St Nicholas tee .
An then, in a twinkling, Ah heard on the roof
The prancing an pawing of each little hoof.
As Ah drew in me heed , an wez turning around,
Doon the chimney St Nicholas cyame wi a bound.

He wez dressed aal in fur, frem his heed te his foot,
An his clothes were aal tarnished wi ashes an soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
An he looked leik a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples hoo merry!
His cheeks were leik roses, his nose leik a cherry!
His droll little gob wez drawn up leik a bow,
An the beard of his chin wez as white as the snaa .

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
An the smoke it encircled his heed leik a wreath.
He had a broad face an a little roond belly,
Tha shook when he laughed, leik a bowlful of jelly!

He wez chubby an plump, a reet jolly aad elf,
An Ah laughed when Ah saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye an a twist of his heed ,
Soon gave me te knaa Aa'd nothin te dread.

He spoke not a word, but went strite te his worrk ,
An filled aal the stockings, then turned wi a jerk.
An laying his finger aside of his nose,
An giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang te his sleigh, te his team gave a whistle,
An away they aal flew leik the doon of a thistle.
But Ah heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove oot of seit ,
"Happy Christmas te aal , an te aal a good-night!"

Div ye ken fit am sayin noo?
Do you know what I'm saying now?

Sie sagen: Geordies are just Scots with their brains kicked out.

"Geordies are just Scots with their brains kicked out."
LOL Das hab ich nie vorher gehört!

"Dein Deutsch ist schon wirklich gut!"
Danke.

An odd thing about German is that we don't use the Präteritum (the original past form) to express past events. Nowadays the Präteritum is almost exclusively (because there are exceptions) used for storytelling in the same way the past is used in English. But to express past events in regular conversations we use the Perfekt.
You're never too old to learn something stupid.
MistakeSuggestionYou sure that's right?

@Mirela: Liebe Grüße aus Wien
