Chatting about music or movies

Beitrag von Mackenzie1970 »

Hey guys,

lately I've got the feeling there is demand for a thread, where people can chat with each other. I guess everyone has more or less a 'relationship' to music or movies. So let's see how this attempt will develop. :)

I like most film genres except Action (too noisy for me). I like comedies like 'Overboard' starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. I don't know how many times I've been watching this movie ... it's still funny. Or 'Father of the Bride' (the remakes) or 'Irma la Douce'.

I like Science Fiction like Alien I-IV and I like horrorfilms like The Ring, The Grudge or Conjuring. Just to name a few. I also like musicals like The Rocky Horror Show, Moulin Rouge, Cabaret, Little Shop of Horrors.

It's your turn now.

Btw: Is there a way to avoid the many words 'like' in this post?

Regards,
Mackenzie

Occasionally I write before thinking ...

I suppose it should be possible to say 'I am fond of Science Fiction such as Alien' instead of 'I like Science Fiction like Alien.' However, mistakes don't matter at all in this topic.

Yesterday I forgot to mention 'Mamma Mia!' (starring marvellous Meryl Streep) and 'Hair'.

There are a couple ways you can say it:

"I like Science Fiction, like Alien ..."
"I am fond of Science Fiction, like Alien ..."
"I enjoy Science Fiction, like Alien ..."

And of course, you can replace "like Alien ..." with "such as Alien ..." or "for example: Alien ..." :)

I also like to watch movies and TV shows. I like Fantasy, Science Fiction, Historical Fiction, and musicals the most. I'm not a big fan of comedies, but there are a few that I love, like "The Princess Bride." I also don't really like Horror films because they scare me too much. :3

Some of my favorite movies are "Joyeux Noël," "Princess Mononoke," "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron," and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

My favorite TV shows are "Supernatural" and "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." My friends all think that's a hilarious combination. :P

For music, I enjoy listening to just about everything! Sixx:A.M. and Avenged Sevenfold are probably my favorite bands. I don't really have a favorite song, but some that I like are "Skin" by Sixx:A.M., "Ничего не жаль" by Денис Майданов, and "Lost" by Avenged Sevenfold.

Thanks for your help, Schuyler.

'Though there haven't been many matches so far.  But I remember you like Metallica, too. Two of my current favorite songs are from Metallica. One of them is 'Whiskey in the jar' - but I don't think, I should mention the second one, because the video is X-rated (I hardly was able to watch it and I don't do it anymore, but I do love the song).

I love Stuart Matthew Price's voice and talent (surprise!) and I like listening to bands like 'The Cure' or 'Placebo'. But I also listen to songs on the Radio just to stay a bit up to date. The best song to me ever has appeared on the radio is 'Hedonism' by Skunk Anansie.

Yesterday I listened to the songs 'Skin' and 'Lost'. I really like 'Skin' and its message.

As I prefer Horror films with ghosts or demons (which I don't believe in), it's not that frightening for me to watch them. I like the way it gives me the creeps and the tension eases after 90 minutes. Watching the news on TV ist usually scarier to me, because it's real (and not just made for entertainment.)

I've always had a marked preference for the color black and crows or fog and stuff like that. I guess that's inherent. :)

Which musicals do you like most?

On the subject of songs or rather lyrics.
Do you guys know Deichkind - Luftbahn and is there a translation of "Luftbahn"?

There are X rated Metallica videos? I have to say, I don't know a single Metallica video or a lot of music videos at all. I generally don't watch music videos because that's too much visual noise.

So what do I like? I can find something in almost every genre whether it's the great classical composers or as Monty Python's calls them "the decomposing composers" ... great song by the way, because it's witty ... or modern compositions of almost all genres.

Hey Luxdux, I didn't know the song 'Luftbahn' and I have to say I like it more than other songs by Deichkind. :)

I have no idea how the word 'Luftbahn' could be translated properly, maybe one of the specialists has.

Dear tiorthan, would you mind going a little more into detail about your taste in music? If you can find the time ...

My favorite classical composition is Pachelbel's 'Canon', it is gorgeous ... a timeless masterpiece. I also like some of Mozart's or Beethoven's compositions, but I have to admit I'm not really into classical music.

I'm not sure how to translate 'And their gravy is left to congeal', it seems to be ambiguous. By the way, I do like John Cleese in 'A Fish Called Wanda' and in general.

I love the Metallica songs "One," "Enter Sandman," and "Creeping Death," as well as a few others. I don't watch very many music videos, though, so I don't know if any of those are appropriate or not. c:

Yeah, I love the meaning behind "Skin." A lot of Sixx:A.M. songs have deep, powerful lyrics, and I think the singer is great at singing with a lot of emotion and meaning in his voice.

The thing with Horror is that I do actually believe in ghosts and paranormal stuff like that, so it's hard for me to watch Horror films about those kinds of things without it scaring me too much. I don't usually have nightmares, but when I'm laying in bed at night after watching a scary movie, I can't stop thinking about it and it's really hard to relax enough to fall asleep. ^^'

What's funny, though, is that what ended up being my favorite TV show, "Supernatural," is a Horror show. At least in the first couple seasons, it's all about ghosts, demons, zombies, etc. that the main characters have to hunt and kill. I didn't expect to like it at all and only gave it a try because a friend begged me to, but it really surprised me. Sure, it terrified me enough that for the first couple nights after I started the show, I went to bed with the light on, but the story had me so hooked from the very beginning that I couldn't make myself stop watching. Nowadays nothing in "Supernatural" really bothers me anymore, even when I re-watch the earlier episodes, but I still can't watch any other Horror movies or shows without getting scared.

For musicals, my favorites are "1776," "Les Miserables," "Phantom of the Opera," and "Lion King." Oh, and of course "The Sound of Music." The music is so beautiful and well-written. :) I have only seen the movies, though, not the actual plays. Except for "Les Miserables," which I saw a performance of at a school, and my teacher was one of the actors, so that was very nice to watch.

Zitat Schuyler:

and I think the singer is great at singing with a lot of emotion and meaning in his voice.

-> I entirely agree, sometimes an impressive singer with a smoky voice and a piano is all I need. The more often I listen to 'Skin', the more I like it. And I found out why Nikki Sixx looked so familiar to me.

Zitat:

I didn't expect to like it at all and only gave it a try because a friend begged me to, but it really surprised me.

-> You are brave, once in a while it's good to bring oneself to do something new. :)

Don't think, I'm tough enough to watch a Horror movie and go to bed immediately afterwards. I have got a friend whose taste in music and movies is pretty much like mine. If we watch a Horror movie on TV, it's usually not frightening at all, because we mostly find something to giggle/laugh about or something has to be discussed instantly - 'though I love these evenings aswell. But when I'm in the mood to get the creeps, I prefer watching a movie at the cinema and go for a drink or two subsequently. Yeah, that's nice ...

I have seen the following musicals 'on stage': 'Cats' (I was about 12 years old then), 'Hair', 'The Fearless Vampire Killers' and 'The Rocky Horror Show.' I also had a ticket for 'Mamma Mia!' but unfortunately I felt sick that day, so someone else had to step in.

I also like 'Les Miserables' (the four-parter) but I haven't seen the musical yet.

@tiorthan: If you told me 'And their gravy is left to congeal' is ambiguous in this song, it would be enough. There's no need to explain.
