Fragen zum Past Continues / Past Continues related questions

Beitrag von Lenny »

Hallo,
habe heute meine Arbeit zurückbekommen. Die Fernlehrerin hat mich nun ganz schön verwirrt..

Beim ersten Satz schrieb ich: Her brakes failed when she was wanting to decelerate.
Dazu schrieb sie, dass der Satz keinen sinn ergibt. Ich denke, ich hätte an Stelle von "wanting", "trying" nehmen soll. Aber rein grammatikalisch ist der Satz doch in Ordnung, oder?
Und kann man an Stelle von "when" auch "as" nehmen können?

Bei einem anderen Satz schrieb ich: "There was an announcement when we were being in the waiting room"
Es ist doch richtig, oder nicht? Die Lehrerin markierte den Satz als "falsch", nur weil man an Stelle von "being", "waiting" nehmen könnte. Aber beides ist doch nicht falsch..

Und dann wurde: "He cut himself when he was cutting the carrot", als "falsch" markiert, weil ich nicht "carrots" schrieb. Ich habe es beabsichtigt, die Pluralform anzuwenden. (Oder müsste es dann "a carrot" heißen?)

Hello,
today's day I recieved the results of my last Englisch test. The distance-teacher keeps confusing me..

The first sentence I wrote was: "Her brakes failed when she was wanting to decelerate"
She answered the sentence is nonsense. I assume I should have written "trying" instead of "waiting". But related to the grammar I did everything correct, didn't I?
And is it possible to write "as" instead of "when"?

Here the following sentence: "There was an announcement when we were being in the waiting room"
It's correct, isn't it? The teacher marked the sentence as "wrong", because I wrote "being" instead of "waiting".. is it that bad?

In the end she marked: "He cut himself when he was cutting the carrot", as "wrong" because i didn't write "carrots". I didn't even attent using the plural form. (or should I have used "a carrot" instead?)

thanks.

Beim ersten Satz schrieb ich: Her brakes failed when she was wanting to decelerate.
Dazu schrieb sie, dass der Satz keinen sinn ergibt. Ich denke, ich hätte an Stelle von "wanting", "trying" nehmen soll. Aber rein grammatikalisch ist der Satz doch in Ordnung, oder? - Rein grammatikalisch ist der Satz richtig, es gibt jedoch eine ganze Liste von Woertern, die nicht in der Continious Form stehen. Eines davon ist "want".Und kann man an Stelle von "when" auch "as" nehmen können? - "as" ist sogar gaengiger als "when"

Bei einem anderen Satz schrieb ich: "There was an announcement when we were being in the waiting room" Es ist doch richtig, oder nicht? Die Lehrerin markierte den Satz als "falsch", nur weil man an Stelle von "being", "waiting" nehmen könnte. Aber beides ist doch nicht falsch.. - dieser Satz ist falsch. Uebersetzt schreibst du: ... als wir im Wartezimmer sassen seien. Deine Lehrerin hat Recht, hier passt "waiting" oder "sitting", nicht jedoch "being"

Und dann wurde: "He cut himself when he was cutting the carrot", als "falsch" markiert, weil ich nicht "carrots" schrieb. Ich habe es beabsichtigt, die Pluralform anzuwenden. (Oder müsste es dann "a carrot" heißen?) - hier nimmt man allgemeine Form (aehnlich wie im Deutschen), ausser es handelt sich um eine einzige Karotte. Das muss dann aus dem Kontext klar werden.

She answered the sentence doesn't make any sense. I assume I should have written "trying" instead of "waiting". But in regards to the grammar I did everything correct, didn't I?
And is it possible to write "as" instead of "when"?

A different sentence: "There was an announcement when we were being in the waiting room"
It's correct, isn't it? The teacher marked the sentence as "wrong", because I wrote "being" instead of "waiting".. is it that bad?

In the end she marked: "He cut himself when he was cutting the carrot", as "wrong" because I didn't write "carrots". I intended to use the plural form. (or should I have used "a carrot" instead?)

Verstehe. Danke!
Das hätte die Fernlehrerin auch mal sagen können. Im Buch ist das auch sehr dürftig gefasst :(
