Due to globalization, there were significant changes in the work world.
Especially economic globalization helped that people all over the world witnessed, that employment is not automatically connected with social and economic security, to live a self-determined life.
Many people with growing uncertainty are facing in the 21st century. It is world's very difficult to find a job, which is social and labour code protected. Since the 1990s, jobs were created mainly in Africa and the Middle East. This often national labour standards were violated.

The economic growth was accompanied by in the past few years with a very low employment rate, which was possible mainly through technical renovations and flexibilization of labour input. This increased the productivity of the work though and the social surplus product grew, but at the same time less quality jobs have been created. The cause of this change is the significantly increased cost of capital, so the pressure was passed on by the companies to their workers and this resulted in turn economic uncertainties. Also, the international competition for cheap imported goods widened because customs duties and other trade barriers were dismantled. The biggest problem caused by free trade was the enlargement of the competition and the loss of jobs to come with security. In addition, single, wholesalers and brand-name manufacturers relying more and more on cross-border value added.

The international opening of markets and the reduction of customs barriers, the lower cost of information, communication and transport have accelerated the economy and intensified the competition. The international division of labour has increased economic growth, consumers benefit from an expansion of good supply at cheaper prices. With high labour costs in their own country, it is obvious to relocate labour-intensive production to countries with cheaper labor costs. In this way, however the local employment in less productive areas affected and displaced low-skilled work. At the same time, but also the disadvantage of developing countries as the predominant provider of low-skilled labour to the industrial countries is reinforced.

Especially rich countries benefit from the globalization of the world of work, because they have the ability to operate international trade and have much better opportunities to sell their products. Thus, these countries are considered even more powerful economically and can increase their own wealth. Also the globalization brings numerous problems and increase global ills. Especially, because rich countries have the freedom to choose where they buy their products, the weaker countries must offer much more affordable their products, to compete with their competitors. Often, the prices are so low that people in poorer countries must earn little and work for starvation wages. Some developing countries such as China, India and Brazil in turn have significant advantages from globalization, although the depletion has increased significantly in these countries on the nature and also the child labour has risen significantly. Particularly in China live a large part of the population in poverty and the country is struggling with massive environmental problems.

The work world is changing today with an accelerated pace due to the use of new technologies. This change poses significant uncertainties. Of the workers he calls for lifelong learning, as their qualifications and experiences quickly become obsolete and can become worthless. He complicated but also the choice of profession, graduates can choose training ultimately only a first profession. It comes to many fractures. Phase of dependent employment can be solved through the phases of an independent employment or unemployment.

The concern for a sufficient supply of work, has many causes.
Less and less time is required to produce the same amount of goods.
Comparatively low labor costs of international competitors, technological developments, and education efforts in the emerging markets raise the concern that developed countries lose also in the production of high-quality goods, their previous strength, on ground.

Recently succeeded in a number of emerging markets, such as India, China, the Asian Tiger States and Latin American countries, to strip away the cheap wage country status. Here is a new competition for the advanced industrial countries in the sector of high-quality work.

Technological progress also is blamed for the loss of jobs. Innovative products displace conventional products, process innovations increase productivity and machines make workers redundant. If not at the same time, an expansion of the volume of production takes place, it comes in the affected industries to the reduction in working hours or the dismissal of workers. As well it is conceivable also that by reducing costs for the cheaper manufactured product sales and subsequently also the production quantity or even employment will be extended. Also the new technologies themselves must be made...A loss of technical progress or a reduction in the international division of labour would but not positively affect the employment, but would rather negative due to the effects on the competitiveness and innovation capacity.

The development is especially low-skilled workers. So the unemployed without completed vocational training accounted for 34 per cent in 2003, during college or university graduates only 6.1 per cent of the unemployed were.

By economic growth in the second half of the 20th century, as well as by the increase in service professions and flexible forms of employment, such as part-time work, demand is significantly increased for female workers. From time to time, especially General demand in times of the economic miracle, was simply larger than the male labour force supply labour. At the same time caused by economic change but also new professions and forms of employment, such as E.g. part-time work, had not taken men in this form at the time, because they were paid too low to feed a family of. For married women, the new jobs offered the possibility to earn anything to the family income to do this and to gain some independence.
