Greetings from Ruhrgebiet/NRW/Germany!

Beitrag von Zurn »

Hi there,

I´m 38 years old and I´m living nearby Dortmund.

My Hobbies are: Hearing music (some kinds of Metal, some kinds of Wave + Gothrock, 80ies, Irish music, 80ies and so on...), watching movies and series (Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy, True Blood and so on), fitness, Krav Maga, computer-gaming, meeting friends, visiting discos....

My boss wanted me to improve my English, so i had my first English lesson last Friday.
I want to do some things private to amend the English lesson.

I tried to read English books last weekend.
I bought "Harry Potter and the Philosopher´s stone". It´s only a book for children but there are some words I have to looked up in the vocabulary.
Now I read first "Englisch lernen mit Witzen" German title, but all jokes have written in English. That works fine.

Moreover I watched "Harry Potter and the Philosopher´s stone" in English. Particularly it was difficult to understand the slang.
After this I tried to watch "Inglorious Basterds" in English with English subtitles. Gone better, I learned some new words.
Then I started with "Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets" in English with English subtitles. Gone better, too.

Any other hints for me?
I´m thanking forward.

If you have any questions don´t hesitate to ask me. :)

Hey.

I'm from Dortmund und say hello to you :P
Where exactly do you come from?

I also bought the book "Harry Potter - The ..." but for me it's too hard because there are so many words which I don't understand.
Otherwise some of them are useless.
Did you read the whole book?

Greeting from Dortmund,

Hello Ruhrpotti... :P

I´m from Castrop-Rauxel.

Yes, there are a lot of words, but I think, if you read one book and translate per Leo.dict. or dict.org, you can extend your vocabulary.
It´s will be easier book by book, i think.

No, I don´t read the whole book. I´m not keen reader. First i read the book "Englisch lernen mit Witzen".

But i watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood-Prince at last. All parts with English subtitles in English audio.

Hey.

I can recommend dict.cc (sorry for the advertisement). If you have a smatphone, you can download it as an application and download the files. Otherwise they also have a wegpage *g*

I also saw every movie in English without subtitle. It is annoying to read AND hear, so you don't see any action.
The book is very hard (for me). One quarter of the book and about 600 (!) vocabularies... Really cruel...
You don't like to read books? Well, me too. I've never read a book until I found one which I like.
One story only had 1,200 words, but it was the first step.

That´s right.
If you read and hear, you will missed the action.
But it doesn´t matter, if you know the movie.
It´s only the first step be able to read, what you can`t understand.
You know what I mean?
We have to wake up the sense of hearing. :)

My English teacher is an Irish and I understand him well.
But, he said it´s partly hard for a native speaker to understand other native speakers because of all the different slangs.
So...we haven´t to be ashamed, if we were able to understand the whole, what the native speakers said.

Sure I know Witten. One of my best friends lives there.
I hate the Crengeldanz & Ardeystrasse, because it is very busy there.

Yes tats right.
At the Crengeldanz is at this time a big roadworks.
So for the time being there is a relatively large congestion.
Chaste regards,
